Educational interventions designed to increase women’s participation in cervical cancer screening are needed. The present study examined the feasibility and preliminary proof-of-concept for a culturally tailored cervical cancer prevention edutainment webisode intervention intended to influence knowledge, screening intentions, and HPV vaccination intentions.MethodsN = 40 African American females were administered a pre-test, completed the edutainment intervention, and completed the post-test 1 week later.ResultsThe intervention was feasible regarding recruitment, engagement, retention, and acceptability. Cervical cancer knowledge, susceptibility, and intentions to screen (p <0 .01) showed positive signal detection in the expected direction, indicating proof-of-concept. Most participants found the edutainment film acceptable for various age groups and public health venues.ConclusionThe intervention demonstrated suitability for future pilot testing and subsequent randomized controlled trial testing to demonstrate efficacy and effectiveness. To mitigate the cervical cancer disparities among African American women, this population should be informed, motivated, and supported through culturally tailored, effective interventions and public health messaging.
